چکیده

An experiment was carried out by considering adverse impact of heavy metals on human health through consumption crops. To alleviate the effects cadmium (Cd) toxicity foliar application gibberellic acid (GA3), two varieties Brassica including Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.) commonly known as ‘Raya’ and rapeseed rapaL.) ‘Toria’ were studied. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) used with eight treatments control in four replicates. Treatments following, T0 (control), T1 (150 μM CdCl2), T2 (50 mg/L GA3), T3 (75 T4 (100 T5 CdCl2 + 50 T6 75 T7 100 GA3). Gibberellic a plant growth regulator applied exogenously. concentration µM CdCl2) resulted Cd affected adversely morphological biochemical parameters. Foliar GA3 mg, mg mg) positively influenced various parameters root length (30 cm), shoot (129.75 number leaves (14.5), pods per (88) like total chlorophyll (0.19 mg/g), protein content (0.70 mg/mL), carbohydrates (0.37 mg/mL) CAT (0.56 units/mg). Outcome indicated that reduces harmful stress both varieties. It concluded all yield variety better compared to ‘Toria’, hence Raya recommended for large scale cultivation under stress.

Alleviation of Cadmium Toxicity in Brassica juncea L. (Czern. & Coss.) by Calcium Application Involves Various Physiological and Biochemical Strategies

Calcium (Ca) plays important role in plant development and response to various environmental stresses. However, its involvement in mitigation of heavy metal stress in plants remains elusive. In this study, we examined the effect of Ca (50 mM) in controlling cadmium (Cd) uptake in mustard (Brassica juncea L.) plants exposed to toxic levels of Cd (200 mg L(-1) and 300 mg L(-1)). The Cd treatment ...

Accumulation of γ-aminobutyric acid and transcription of glutamate decarboxylase in Brassica juncea (L.) Czern

Mustard leaf (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.) using as material of a traditional fermented vegetable food (Kimchi) in Korea, is one of the important vegetables. Two cultivars of mustard (red and green) were grown in the experimental farm of Chungnam National University and allowed them to grow until flowering stage. In this study, the variability of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content and mRNA tran...

Cloning and nucleotide sequence of a cDNA encoding S-adenosyl-L-methionine synthetase from mustard (Brassica juncea [L.] Czern & Coss).

Ethylene, a gaseous hormone in plants, is involved in the regulation of a wide range of plant physiological processes, including leaf abscission, fruit ripening, and flower senescence (Yang and Hoffman, 1984). SAM or Adomet synthetase (ATP:L-methionine S-adenosyltransferase; EC 2.5.1.6) catalyzes the conversion of Met to SAM in the presence of ATP and Mg2+, which is the first step in ethylene b...

Thermal and pressure stability of myrosinase enzymes from black mustard (Brassica nigra L. W.D.J. Koch. var. nigra), brown mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern. var. juncea) and yellow mustard (Sinapsis alba L. subsp. maire) seeds.

This study investigates the effects of temperature and pressure on inactivation of myrosinase extracted from black, brown and yellow mustard seeds. Brown mustard had higher myrosinase activity (2.75 un/mL) than black (1.50 un/mL) and yellow mustard (0.63 un/mL). The extent of enzyme inactivation increased with pressure (600-800 MPa) and temperature (30-70° C) for all the mustard seeds. However,...

Nitric oxide production induced by heavy metals in Brassica juncea L. Czern. and Pisum sativum L

In plants, nitric oxide (NO) has multiple roles in defence reactions under abiotic stresses, including heavy metal load. Literature data suggest that there is a causal relationship between NO and iron metabolism but the effects of essential micronutrients/toxic heavy metals on NO production have not been investigated. In this study our aim is to demonstrate the possible role of NO in the plant ...
